2007 solo debut from the former Cranberries vocalist. Written and recorded in Dublin and Canada and featuring production from Dan Broadbeck and acclaimed musician/producer Youth, whose many production credits include Paul McCartney and U2. The album was written and inspired by her personal experiences over the last four years including her marriage, the birth of her third child and the death of her mother-in-law. 12 tracks including the first single 'Ordinary Day', 'Loser' and 'Apple'. Seit der Auflösung der Band hat Dolores O'Riordan mit dem deutschen Duo Jam and Spoon, dem Italiener Zucchero und David Lynchs Stammkomponisten Angelo Badalamenti zusammengearbeitet. 2006 spielte sie in der Filmkomödie Click sich selbst. Und nebenbei hat sie immer an ihrem ersten Soloalbum gefeilt. Die Geduld hat sich gelohnt. Are You Listening? wurde von Youth (The Verve, U2) koproduziert und erinnert an die Musik, die Siouxsie and the Banshees und Sinéad O'Connor in den Achtzigern machten: voluminöse Keyboards, aggressives Schlagzeug und druckvolle Gitarrenarbeit. Da könnte man übersteigerte Theatralik befürchten, doch die wuchtigen Arrangements drängen die zierliche, aber resolute Sängerin nie in den Hintergrund. Besonders gelungen sind in dieser Hinsicht das beschwingte "Ordinary Day" und das eindringliche "Black Widow". Cranberries-Fans, die etwas eher Verhaltenes erwartet haben, werden sich wundern, doch Dolores O'Riordans vielseitiger Gesang dürfte die meisten Skeptiker überzeugen. Außerdem besticht sie durch gefühlvolle Texte, die durch ihren Ehemann ("Apple of My Eye"), den Tod ihrer Schwiegermutter ("Black Widow") und die Geburt ihres jüngsten Kindes ("Ordinary Day") inspiriert wurden. --Kathleen C.
