Damirón y su piano merengue presents twelve instrumental recordings by Dominican pianist, composer and arranger Francisco Alberto Simó Damirón, one of the pioneering figures in the development and international promotion of piano-led merengue.

The collection combines traditional Dominican merengue with Caribbean and Latin American standards, highlighting Damirón’s distinctive rhythmic piano style. It includes two versions of his signature “Piano Merengue”—one studio recording and one live performance—along with interpretations of “Capullito de Alhelí,” “Para Elisa/Sueño de Amor,” “Bilongo,” “La Múcura,” “Amalia Batista” and “La Comparsa.”

This Venezuelan compact-disc edition was issued as part of the CD Manía – El Nacional collection, with the Velvet and Sonido Digital Grandes Intérpretes imprints. The rear artwork states that it was licensed by SACVEN for the Venezuelan territory.

Francisco Alberto Simó Damirón, better known simply as Damirón, was a Dominican pianist, composer and arranger born in 1908. His energetic playing style fused merengue with broader elements of Latin popular music, helping establish the piano as a leading instrument within modern merengue.

Damirón began performing internationally during the first half of the twentieth century and became one of the musicians most closely associated with the expansion of Dominican merengue beyond the Caribbean. Historical accounts credit him with introducing and popularizing the instrumental piano-merengue style during the 1950s.

This Venezuelan edition is especially interesting because it forms part of El Nacional’s CD Manía anniversary collection and carries the catalog number PNCD 9050. It also credits renowned Venezuelan musician Aldemaro Romero as musical advisor and specifically identifies the release as licensed by SACVEN for distribution in Venezuela.
